Hey guys looking for some input on this, so I figured why not ask and see what the feel of the people who still visit here feel like. I'm in a situation where we obviously don't have as active of a website as we used to have, we don't host games servers, I have cut off hosting of files for people because some of the people I hosted files for became dumbasses quite frankly. I'm thinking of turning this domain into a tech blog for my business where my customers, friends, and family can come see what I think about tech, what the current trends are, good prices on items, emerging tech etc. With this I would probably kill the forums and turn this into a comments section type blog similar in taste to all the popular blogs around.

In doing this obviously everyone who wants to visit here would have to re-register with the site and start fresh. I personally don't think it's a bad idea, because the hits we are getting here are mainly from random people who are spending 10-30 minutes on the site looking through our forums, or bots trying to spam the forum. Either way I am getting no gain, and I don't think what community we have is getting any gain from what we currently have. The site and forum software we are running is behind the times, and also doesn't show off what I can do for websites what so ever.

I used to have a huge love for new computer parts and had to upgrade to the latest and greatest every couple of months to make sure it stayed a large glistening rod. I love new fast hardware.....or used too.

As of late, I have come to realize I never appreciated the equipment I had and swapped out stuff to the point I never got my money's worth or time worth out of equipment and have realized with my "aging" e8400 8GB of ram and 8800GTS 640mb was still doing things that newer computer's where doing. Up until I starting messing with Battlefield Bad Company 2, the game ran like shit quite honestly. I want all the eye candy at at least 60FPS or better. As norm I shot for 100 for optimal gaming in first person shooters. So I swapped out my 8800GTS 640mb with a GTS 250 1GB card (yes I know its only a refresh) but my frames we not hurting from the speed of the card but the memory. So 1 die shrink later, an additional 360mb of GDDR3 and drivers to match I now can run BFBC2 at full 1680x1050 at the blazing rate of $150.......If this was 2 years ago I would have built a new $1500 machine or more.

Sorry for no new news on the new site. Can I say new a couple more times? Well good news is I'm still working on it, and have changed directions onto a final course of how to handle the new site. Still doing some new coding work and rethinking how to handle things so it will be a bit longer before we roll with it.

Sorry for no new stuff being posted in the last week or so as for a change I've been covered up again with some small business consulting work, so next week I'll be unavailable for working on the site again boo! I've got one server to build for a business which will tie up the better part of a day doing software installation and security audits on the box. Not to mention documentation...grrrr....

Then the next day (probably wen.) I'll be delivering and setting up the customers new server and doing a complete network refresh for the server and client connecting to it. This will take the better part of that day to mitigate everyone over to the new LAN and connect two different location via VPN for sharing their business stuff.

Thursday will be check in day and fixing anything that may have come up, but since I'm such a badass IT guy there will be no issues. ;)

Either way maybe come mid day Thursday or Friday I will once again be back at work on my site if no work comes in.....and hopefully I don't have time for the site, no offense ;)

Whoa got A LOT done this weekend on the new site. Had a couple things brought up to me that got me thinking about additional features needed on the site. One major thing being social bookmarking sites after what Dead_verse said about doing some Stumble reviews from time to time. So now on the "single" pages when you read full articles I have added in social bookmark short cuts for Delicious, Digg, Reddit, Stumble, and Twitter.

But then I got to thinking, twitter only allows 140 characters so my new SEO url's wouldn't work if I had a long title name. So I have integrated the tinyurl service into those bookmarks that way when you click them it takes you to your account with each site and automatically adds the information to the site of your choice. It will looks like this on twitter for example: "Post title : tinyurl.com/####" instead of : "Post title : http://www.gorillazsouth.com/2010/01/Post title". Handy aye?!

I have just about finalized the code work for the comments section where it will alternate background colors from comment author to comment author and also does a different highlight for the original posts author.

Avatars on the new site will be using the gravatar service on the forums and the website. In my ever going quest (regardless of game servers) in my attempt to better the community I will be swapping the site design for a newer system, that doesn't operate quite as archaic as this 5 year old system. I have followed through with maintenance on this site to the point it's just not viable for me to continue down this road.

I have just about finished the design for the new site, I should have most of the news stuff finished tomorrow and just need to put the finishing touches on the looks etc.

What are we in for?

Well namely I've been pretty large into Twitter for the last few months and had been coding, just about finished it, and automated twitter script for this site, were it would post my news from here onto my twitter. Then I realized that with the framework this site is built on it would be highly messy and require WAAAAAYYYY too many database queries. SO I decided to find a better match for the site.

I decided finally if I was going to start posting news again I wanted it way easier than the way I'm doing it now, so I started looking into everything from one off coding, all the way back around to where we are now. I ended up in the middle of the road and found a suitable replacement and have been working heavily with it.

Ok lets see how many of you guys are behind the times. If you use ANY version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft, you know that browser with the big blue E on your  desktop, Microsoft wants you to update to IE8 even though it's still vulnerable. My suggestion however is much more logical. This statement was issue by Microsoft after it became publicly known that there was a zero day attack aimed at Google.



Now another check on how far people really are across the web on this one, is that the flaw was found and executed on IE6 which is still the predominate version of IE used across the internet. IE6 sucks by the way for more reason than I feel like talking about here, especially to web designers. Calling all peeps! We got a small news update and L4D2 day! The small new is the TF2 free weekend is on if you didn't know.  Hey guys just to let you all know, I have not gotten started and forgotten about the news section of the site again. For the last 3 days I have been moving into a new town house and out of our little shitty apartment. Seriously we had to go because the landlord at our old apartments thought it would be a good idea to let crackheads and drug dealers move in.....no joke we had our counties largest cocaine trafficker, he's Jamaican, move in across from us, he's known as the "Jamaican Connection" here locally.

Either way the new townhouse swap over has worked nicely, we moved in my internet and cable was already on which is very nice, so I've obviously got my shit setup. So now, it's just a matter of getting everything un-packed grrrr. Either way good things coming soon.

Oh and due to the legal situation in my state you may start seeing some "Pyxis Technologie LLC." things around the site. Namely at the bottom, I am now registered with the state and federal governments, or will be here in a couple weeks due to paperwork timing, as a LLC is the US and I am required to post any properties that are under that name, and GS has fallen under it due to some possible future hosting situations. (IE hopefully some discount "corporate" accounts with server hostings ;) Anyways good things coming hopefully so stay tuned.

Well where I live earlier this week we had a kid, I think he was 12, die from the 'Swine Flu' or H1N1, R2D4 or whatever the fuck it's called. Everyone is fucking panicking all over the place it's the "HOT" news for the local papers and news stations.

The airborne military laser which promises to destroy, damage or disable targets with little to no collateral damage has for the first time actually blown something up. Boeing and the US Air Force today said that on Aug. 30, a C-130H aircraft armed with Boeing's Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) blasted a target test vehicle on the ground for the first time. Boeing has been developing the ATL since 2008 under an Air Force contract worth up to $30 million.

According to Boeing, the C-130 fired its 12,000lb high-power chemical laser through the beam control system while flying over White Sands Missile Range, N.M. The beam control system acquired the ground target and guided the laser beam to the target.

The ATL team includes L-3 Communications/Brashear, which made the laser turret, and Hytec which made various structural elements of the weapon system, Boeing said.

The ATL is complementary to the Airborne Laser (ABL), which Boeing is developing for the US Missile Defense Agency to destroy airborne ballistic missiles. Windows 7 already seems like a real winner with a lot of the users who have used the RC and beta releases from Microsoft. This was probably the smartest move Microsoft ever did releasing the RC's and beta to public testing as it has really built confidence with the users so far, and many of them will upgrade to the full blown version that will be released in October.

On October 22nd, you will be presented with several different version of Windows 7 to choose from and a lot of people are asking the question, "Well whats my upgrade path?" Well to answer this problem Microsoft released a table of information that quite frankly was hard to read for many people and confused the hell outta anyone other than the computer geeks at heart.

The good news that came out of this confusion was that Microsoft is actually doing the right thing and offering both users of XP and Vista the right to upgrade to Windows 7 at discounted prices instead of needing to go full retail. For instance  the Windows 7 UPgrade will be $120 versus $200 for the full retail version, Professional will be $200/$300 and Ultimate will be $220/$320 respectively. So not too bad of a deal, well as long as you agree to give up your XP or Vista license......
